Terry N. Silverman attended the University
of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and received his undergraduate
degree in 1971. He attended law school at the University of Florida
receiving his law degree in 1974. Upon graduation, he was hired
in Gainesville as an Assistant State Attorney for the Eighth Judicial
Circuit by State Attorney Eugene T. Whitworth. As a prosecutor,
he was assigned criminal cases, including misdemeanor and felony
charges, for prosecution throughout the six counties that comprise
the Eighth Circuit.
During his employment, State Attorney Whitworth was appointed by
the Governor to head the Second Statewide Grand Jury investigating
organized gambling and crime throughout the State of Florida. Mr.
Whitworth designated Mr. Silverman as a Special Assistant State
Attorney to the Grand Jury. In that capacity, he provided legal
advice and guidance to the panel including drafting applications
to the Florida Supreme Court for the orders approving wiretaps and
other electronic surveillance.
Terry entered private practice in Gainesville and has practiced
in this area for 32 years. He has represented clients in
cases ranging from capital murder to misdemeanors, and has litigated
numerous cases to verdict. Mr. Silverman is admitted in the United
States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts
of Florida and has trial experience in all of them, including multi-defendant
conspiracy trials.
He is also a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court,
and Eleventh and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeal. He has served on
the Florida Bar Grievance Committee and Fee Arbitration Committee
for the Eighth Judicial Circuit of Florida.
In addition to State and Federal criminal cases, Mr. Silverman
has an active civil litigation practice, including personal injury
and wrongful death cases. Because of his interest in mediation,
Mr. Silverman obtained his certification from the Florida Supreme
Court as a certified circuit and county court mediator. Over the
last several years, he has served as a mediator in over 150 Civil
cases with the vast majority resulting in settlement. Mediation
is a rapidly expanding part of Mr. Silverman's practice and he recently
purchased and renovated an office building to better accommodate
the needs of attorneys and their clients utilizing his mediation
practice.
